Christmas... Humbug! Scrooge and Bob Cratchit character portraits...

Scrooge ... notice the sinister chain around the border...

December is here folks! which means Christmas isn't far off now... it's hard to ignore all the brightly coloured lights and displays and images of Santa Claus with all his elves and fluffy animal helpers which seem to be everywhere you turn now... When I think of Christmas I think of a more Victorian one, so obviously 'A Christmas Carol' by Mr Charles Dickens is a perfect starting point! Here are my festive illustrations, a couple of character portraits of the miserly Ebeneezer Scrooge and long suffering but ever optimistic Bob Cratchit (who I think has already had a couple of gin's looking at his face)

Peter Pan by J.M.Barrie pop up book, published by Tango Books

Peter Pan pop up book cover illustration close up

On Friday I received a parcel from the postman, a nice brown box and inside, some of my very favourite things, books :) these particular books were copies of Peter Pan by J.M.Barrie, a popup book published by Tango Books and illustrated by me... :)

It is always exciting to finally meet the end product of something you've illustrated, and I have taken some photo's to share with you. This was not easy to photograph, being fairly intricate illustrations on a slightly glossy flat surface, so I hope you can see the details!

Last year I also illustrated The Wizard of Oz popup book in the same series, and Peter Pan has the same format, with a 3 dimensional cut out cover illustration, abridged text from the original by J.M.Barrie with detailed colour illustrations throughout and 4 illustrated pop up scenes, each of which opens up like a tiny theatre.

Inside the pop up scene! A tiny little theatre...
I have only photographed the inside of two of the pop ups here as I've yet to take a clear photo of the remaining two! both of which are set inside the nursery...

Peter Pan is published by Tango Books and illustrated by Nicola L Robinson, it is available now from all the usual places, and you can of course order it into your favourite local bookshop too. (I would encourage you to do so!) It would make a lovely Christmas present.

Illustration for Home-Start 2014 Calendar...

Earlier this year I was contacted by the lovely people at Home-Start UK who were looking for children's illustrators who might be able to donate an illustration for their 2014 charity calendar. I was happy to donate an illustration and have recently received a copy of the finished calendar... A huge thank you to Louise from Home-Start Arun for organising it!

Home-Start 2014 Calendar - October illustration by Nicola L Robinson

It probably comes as no surprise that I contributed the October illustration (my birthday month!) and obviously Halloween too. My illustration is a family of Halloween dragons, complete with carved pumpkin and some fluffy 3 eyed bats.

Home-Start 2014 calendar - Cover illustration by Kim Geyer
I think the calendar looks great, the gorgeous cover illustration is by Kim Geyer (also the month of March). It is a nice big square format 305mm by 305mm, with 12 different children's illustrations from 12 published children's illustrators (including myself)  It is printed on matt paper, making it easy to write on,  and has a 5 column planner format, so you can keep track of all the important dates and whereabouts of all the family on it...

The illustrations are all really bright and colourful and will look superb on the kitchen wall, or the hallway or wherever you hang your calendar. Mine is going in the dining room...
